Could have, Would have, Should have
Can you imagine it? What would have happened if Harry Potter had been sorted into Slytherin instead of Gryffindor? Really, the only reason he ended up where he did was that he met Ron and Hermione on the train. If he had sat down with Malfoy he might not have noticed his barbed traits before striking up an acquaintance and aligning with Malfoy’s preferred house.
Now, if that would have happened, Harry may not have had the support system and research team he found in Hermione and Ron. But he might have the inside scoop on what’s happening with You-know-who. He would have gotten along with Snape better and might have flown under Dolores Umbridge’s radar for longer.
We’re happy with where Harry Potter ended up, but when we’re thinking about the houses we have to remember that our boy Harry was right on the fence between Gryffindor and Slytherin since day one.
